MBDA Systems has completed the testing of its upgraded Brimstone missile designed for the U.K. Ministry of Defense’s Brimstone 2 program, Defense World reported Monday.
During the trials, the five missiles, which were fired against moving targets with a speed of up to 70 mph in various environments, range and boresight, each achieved a direct hit of the targets.
The upgrades include a new guidance system, a more than 200% increase in off boresight and maximum range capabilities and an enhanced laser and dual mode performance.
Other new features of the Brimstone 2 missile are an increased manoeuvrability for release from fast moving platforms and increased performance against highly dynamic targets.
The article added the Brimstone was able to engage armored, non-armored, static and fast moving targets with precision and low collateral risks.
