The Intelligence and National Security Alliance has released a white paper that examines the role of cyber capabilities in intelligence work against malicious online attacks.
INSA’s “Operational Levels of Cyber Intelligence“ report says it possible to conduct missions in cyberspace using a methodology with specific operational levels, functions and roles, the alliance said Thursday.
Cyber intelligence operations could pose different sets of challenges for both public and private sectors, the report says.
“Cyber intelligence is critical to taking a more proactive stance in defending your networks,“ said John Felker and Troy Mattern, the white paper principal authors.
“Derived from outside sources, combined with what you know of your own network, cyber intelligence strategically helps make solid resource planning decisions and functionally, helps your network operators better defend and mitigate cyber threats,“ they added.
