Eric Spiegel, chief executive of Siemens USA, says the company plans to boost collaboration with the U.S. government as part of a larger strategy to broaden the German conglomerate’s operations in the country, he told Deutsche Welle for a report published July 27.
Christina Bergmann writes Siemens is looking to increase government contract sales from the current 5 percent rate.
Siemens has already launched initiatives such as vocational training for veterans and the unemployed, a transport system intended to run on renewable power and a healthcare program.
The company is also targeting the clean energy market in the U.S., Spiegel said in the interview.
“We have a good feeling about the long-term forecasts for the wind industry in the US, although the growth rate will decrease,” he told DW.
Spiegel worked for Booz Allen Hamilton for two decades before taking the helm at the conglomerate’s U.S. office in 2010.
He moved Siemens’ headquarters from New York to Washington a year later to maintain close proximity with its government partners and founded the government technologies unit to specialize in sensitive projects.
