Exelis-LogoITT Exelis has won a $2.96 million contract from Raytheon to produce antennas for the Standard Missile-3 weapon system.

Exelis will build the antennas for the SM-3 Block IIA program, a collaborative development initiative between the U.S. Defense Department and Japan’s defense ministry, the company said Monday.

“Effective missile defense is critical to global security, and Exelis is proud to be supporting this effort,” said Paul Eyring, Exelis senior director of programs for antennas, sensors and microelectronics.

The antennas work to navigate the missile through the air and protect crews in the event of termination.

Work will take place at Exelis’ Bohemia, N.Y., facility and the company expects to complete deliveries by mid-2015, with deployment scheduled for 2018.
