Cisco will purchase data virtualization firm Composite Software for $180 million in cash in a strategic move to expand its next-generation services platform and Smart Services portfolio.
Composite Software employees will join the Cisco services team in San Jose, Calif. and Cisco expects to close the transaction by the first quarter of its 2014 fiscal year, Cisco said Thursday.
San Mateo-based Composite offers software and services that work to make it appear as though different types of data sharing one network is in one place.
Gary Moore, Cisco president and chief operating officer, said the companies intends to help organizations gain business intelligence with their combined offerings.
Cisco says its acquisitions of Composite and SolveDirect, announced in March, are part of its plan to build a unified platform portfolio and software services strategy.
