Several technology companies have joined forces to share research and development costs and technology for an initiative aimed at growing software-defined networking in the corporate market.
Vendors will contribute code aimed at helping their products work together, but also be allowed to customize their products to differentiate themselves from competitors, Reuters reported Monday.
Reuters reports members of the OpenDaylight project include companies such as:
- Arista Networks
- Big Switch Networks
- Brocade
- Cisco
- Citrix
- IBM
- Intel
- Juniper Networks
- Microsoft
- Red Hat
- VMware
The SDN market could be worth up to $3.7 billion by 2016, research firm IDC says, according to Reuters.
OpenDaylight could release its first code during this year’s third quarter, Reuters reported.
