Microsoft and Morehouse College have launched the YouthSpark Initiative to offer free IT skills training to students and educators in Atlanta.
The company announced Friday that the YouthSpark Atlanta program will include the creation of a Microsoft IT Academy, an Innovation Lab, campus recruitment and leadership training.
Microsoft Greater Southeast District general manager Marietta Davis said that under the alliance, Morehouse students and faculty “will get best-in-class technology and real-world mentorship to further prepare their students for success outside the classroom.”
Microsoft also announced that it donated $7.5 million worth of software to Youth Villages’ Douglasville, GA campus.
“This grant means Microsoft“™s total support of Youth Villages“™ children comes to nearly $13 million, which has helped our youth learn computer skills and allowed us to support our staff with modern clinical records and office technology,“ said Patrick Lawler, CEO, Youth Villages.
The YouthSpark Atlanta program supports Microsoft’s partnership with the Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The company has previously entered into an education alliance with Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC.
