accenture logoAccenture Federal Services has won a five-year contract from the U.S. Treasury Department to update applications and build new features into the Internal Revenue Service‘s account management services system.

The company helped built the system’s correspondence imaging inventory in 2003 to help customer service representatives address questions from taxpayers, Accenture said Wednesday.

Under this new award, the company will aim to automate manual tasks, keep the system up-to-date with changes to legislation and display and validate changes to taxpayers’ accounts.

Accenture is also aiming for the system to transfer and close cases, as well as conduct correspondence.

“Ensuring that taxpayers have trusted resources available to help meet their tax responsibilities has always been a top priority for the IRS,“ said Matt Tait, head of Accenture“™s work with the Treasury.

The system has 39,000 users and processes 60 million taxpayer documents, Accenture says.
