Lockheed Martin helped co-sponsor National Engineers Week by promoting contributions of engineers to society and encouraging students to consider careers in engineering and related fields.

Company employees volunteered more than 7,500 hours to help carry out science, technology, engineering and math activities with more than 31,000 students during Engineers Week, according to Lockheed.

“We have 60,000 engineers, scientists, and IT professionals, and we are dedicated to honoring their important work and also encouraging students to pursue rewarding careers in engineering-related fields,“ said Dr. Ray Johnson, Lockheed senior vice president and chief technology officer.

Johnson also served as co-chair for 2013 Engineers Week.

At one event, the company hosted a robotics design competition where students developed robotics cars for a race with the help of Lockheed employees during the six weeks leading up to the competition.

Students and museum attendees in Fort Worth, Texas simulated an F-35 fighter jet flight at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

Lockheed employees also helped more than 300 students take apart engines and put them back together at the Roper Mt. Science Center in Greenville, S.C.

“Through fun, hands-on activities such as engineering challenges and hosting students on facility tours, our employees are working to share their knowledge and passion for engineering with future generations,” Johnson added.
