Engility Corp. plans to hire about 100 new employees and nearly double its Charleston, S.C. office space to support the company’s contract work for the U.S. Navy in the region.

The company currently employs around 150 individuals to provide software support and information technology services to the Charleston-based Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic, Engility said Monday.

“Charleston is known as Silicon Harbor in part because of the technology-related work that is being done to support the U.S. Navy and numerous federal agencies,” said Tony Smeraglinolo, president and CEO.

Smeraglinolo said the company will hire new employees for positions in business analysis, software development, Oracle E-Business suite, information assurance and engineering.

He added those employees will help develop, integrate, install and test cloud-based software systems.

Engility will also increase its office space from 23,000 square feet to more than 41,000 square feet.

This expansion effort comes as the company recently won a prime contract to help the Marine Corps Systems Command and SPAWAR Atlantic update a global logistics system for the Marines.

The company is also working with the Department of Veterans Affairs to help operate its benefits management system.
