Raytheon - ExecutiveBizRaytheon and General Atomics are working together to develop a new electronic warfare system for unmanned aerial vehicles aimed at confusing target integrated air defense system.

The companies completed a ground verification test phase of Raytheon’s Miniature Air Launched Decoy in November 2012 and plan to integrate the system on General Atomics’ MQ-9 Reaper drone by 2013, Raytheon said Thursday.GA_logo

Harry Schulte, vice president of air warfare systems for Raytheon’s missile systems business, said the companies are aiming for electronic warfare systems to suppress enemy air defenses remotely and unmanned.

MALD-J is designed to add radar-jamming features to a basic MALD platform, Raytheon said.

Basic MALD platforms weigh less than 300 pounds and are intended to fly for up to 575 miles, according to the company.
