A Raytheon system designed to integrate into blimp-like balloons detected and tracked four targets mimicking tactical ballistic missiles during a December test in New Mexico, Reuters reports.

According to Jim Wolf’s story, the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System has a targeting radar and wide-area surveillance radar designed to give users a 360-degree view of up to 340 miles.

During the tests at the White Sands Missile Range, the company and the U.S. Army evaluated JLENS’ capabilities in estimating launch points, tracking ballistic missiles and discriminating.

JLENS is intended to fly at altitudes of up to 10,000 feet with a 74-meter-long aerostat that operates aloft for up to 30 days while tethered to mobile moorings, according to Reuters.
