IBM and Deutche Telekom are partnering to provide cities systems for intelligent data capture and analysis aimed at helping municipalities manage resources and infrastructure.
The integrated solutions partnership intends to leverage IBM“™s expertise from its Smarter Cities projects and Deutsche Telekom“™s global machine-to-machine offerings such as integration and network connectivity, IBM said Friday.
Under the partnership, IBM will deliver technology systems that gather from services, applications and device end points and are built to help cities make operational decisions by using big data.
Deutsche Telekom, will provide cities M2M connectivity to IBM’s technologies and services, as well as SIM card access management and M2M integration expertise.
“Cities are asking their trusted providers to deliver new ways to help them become more innovative,” said Michael Dixon, general manager for IBM’s Global Smarter Cities initiative.
Deutche Telekom’s M2M communication technology is intended to automate exchange of information between terminal equipment such as machines, vehicles and containers or with a central control center.
That interconnectivity is known as the “Internet of Things“ and is intended to help monitor systems such as traffic lights, public transport vehicles and parking spaces, IBM says.
By combining this technology with IBM“™s Smarter Cities services, the companies are aiming to help cities make decisions in real-time regarding intelligent traffic management, route optimization, bus or train arrival prediction and parking space management.
