
Bashir Patel, former chief operating officer for the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization, has been appointed regional director for Inmarsat Plc‘s global government division in Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.
Patel brings with him three decades of experience as an executive in defense aerospace, satellite systems and information and communication technology, Inmarsat announced Sunday.
He has also worked for ICO Global Communications and British Aerospace and holds experience in management consulting and business development in the Africa, West Asia and Middle East markets.
As regional director, Patel will manage Inmarsat“™s relationships with its partners, stakeholders and government network hubs in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Africa and the U.K.
Andy Start, Inmarsat president for global government, said the company is accelerating its investment in the sector nearly a year after launching the global government business.
Pate will continue to serve as CTO ambassador to the Middle East alongside his new role, Inmarsat said.
