The Department of Veterans Affairs and Housing and Urban Development released a mobile application to help its employees keep count of the number of homeless veterans, Federal News Radio reports.
Data gathered from the mobile app will be used for the agencies’ annual two-week point-in-time survey.
VA’s Assistant Deputy CIO for Development Management Dave Peters said the pilot for the mobile app began January 23 and will be used to collect some basic demographic information using the geolocator on the iPhone.
The app stores the demographic information which is later sent to the VA’s database.
The app was also developed to follow the White House’s Digital Government Strategy which calls for increased mobility in the government.
According to the article, the Veterans Health Administration and the CIO’s office are creating a joint governance board to manage the mobile apps software development process.
