Harris Corp. held a  groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday for a new $100 million technology facility on the Harris campus in Palm Bay, Fl.

According to a company statement, the new facility “will become the centerpiece for some of the company’s most advanced engineering efforts.”

“The new Harris Technology Center represents an important investment in the future growth of our company, and our desire to create world-class working facilities for our employees,” said William Brown, president and CEO. “For our community and state, it represents our commitment to being here for the long term and continuing to play a key role in the region’s economic growth.

The new facility will be six-stories, 464,000 square feet, will house 1,200 to 1,400 Harris employees and is being built with the hope of LEED certification.

Florida Governor Rick Scott, who attended the ceremony, said Harris Corp. has partnered with the state for over 50 years.

The new center was designed by Melbourne-based architect firm BRPH and will be built by Balfour Beatty Construction of Orlando, W&J Construction Corporation of Rockledge and M.H. Williams Construction Group, Inc. of Melbourne and is meant to be completed by 2014.
