Alion to Support Navy Unmanned Weapon Systems; Terri Spoonhour Comments - top government contractors - best government contracting eventAlion Science and Technology has won a $24 million contract to provide the Naval Surface Warfare Center with technology development, integration and evaluation expertise.

According to a company statement, the development of unmanned and automated weapon systems is a top priority to sustain the Navy“™s littoral missions.

The NSWC’s work focuses on technical engineering to increase the capabilities of those weapon systems including unmanned surface vehicles, unmanned ground vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

“The capabilities and prototype systems produced by Alion will be used by the Navy and other homeland security-focused agencies such as the U.S. Coast Guard, joint services and Department of Homeland Security,“ said Terri Spoonhour, group senior vice president and manager of the distributed simulation group.

“These technologies comprise configurations operating from several types of weapons platforms and other vehicles such as Navy warships and experimental boats, explosive ordnance disposal operating craft and various other craft as well as shore-based facilities,” Spoonhour added.

The work was awarded under the weapon systems technology information analysis center contract which will expire in September 2015.
