ITT Exelis and an Airbus subsidiary are partnering to develop a new system for airports and airline customers to track aircraft and vehicle movement between gates, Exelis announced Monday.
The companies will draw on Exelis’ web-based Symphony OpsVue, which visualizes flight data, and Metron’s web-based Harmony, used to manage flow and collaborative decision making.
Goals of the partnership include providing airlines and airports a centrally-hosted application without a need for establishing physical information technology infrastructure and system support staffing, said Ted Carniol, a principal for commercial services at Exelis.
Symphony visualizes flights in the National Airspace System and operational monitoring and alerts users for diversion management, irregular operations and compliance with passenger bill of rights requirements.
Airlines and airports use Harmony to predict congestion on the airport surface and in the air, as well as make decisions for managing congestion, slot substitution and collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration“™s national traffic flow management system.
Dulles International Airport uses Symphony to calculate taxi times and create alerts for changes in those times.
