The Energy Department wants electric power companies to anonymously share data with the department and also form a board for overseeing cybersecurity, NetworkWorld reports.
According to Ellen Messmer‘s article, that information would identify network vulnerabilities or attacks, with DOE sharing the information with other participating utilities on an anonymous basis.
Citing a 90-page DOE guidance, Messmer writes the government wants the governance board to develop a cybersecurity strategy and recruit a new vice president of cybersecurity to implement a program based on that strategy.
Andy Bochman, IBM“™s energy sector leader in the security systems division, told Messmer many do not have a chief information security officer or a chief security officer.
DOE’s guidance calls on utilities to appoint a senior cybersecurity executive that will report to the company“™s board, Messmer reports.
