The Air Force Special Operations Command wants device management software for the 2,725 Apple iPads that were bought in May to serve as electronic flight bags, NextGov reports.
These electronic flight bags will be used to store and display flight charts and manuals that are traditionally on paper.
Bob Brewin reports that the software should be able to register and control smartphones that are in the AFSOC network as well as enforce security policies.
AFSOC also wants a technology capable of locking and resetting data on devices against unauthorized access.
The device management software will manage commercial and government mobile apps.
Aside from the iPads, the software will support up to 6,000 devices in multiple platforms such as Android, Blackberry, and Symbian.
