Harris Corp.‘s CapRock Communications subsidiary has signed a multi-year, multi-channel contract with Astrium Services to offer end-to-end Ultra-High Frequency Tactical Satellite solutions, Harris announced Tuesday.
The new communications system is expected to be fully operational by Spring 2013 and available for domestic and international users.
The joint Harris and Astrium end-to-end commercial UHF service will include dedicated 25 kHz and 5 kHz satellite channels for UHF TACSAT-capable radios, including previous Harris models Falcon II and Falcon III.
UHF is a robust beyond-line-of-sight communications system. It is designed for tactical-edge users and for command and control reach-back.
In addition it will also use a new TACSAT waveform that will allow users to actively manage their own channels, including legacy UHF waveforms DAMA and IW.
