Harris Corp. has developed two new radio systems, one designed to assist with command and control operations and the other for transmitting data such as video, still imagery and maps.
The company announced Monday the release of its new wideband high-frequency radio, the RF-7800H and update of its existing line-of-sight radio system, the Falcon III RF-7800W.
RF-7800H kits are 20 percent smaller and lighter than previous HF manpacks and operate on a single battery, the company said.
Warfighters will use that radio to transmit videos, images, maps and other large data files in mountainous and urban terrains.
Current HF kits only provide enough bandwidth for voice and limited data communication such as text messaging, according to the company.
The updated RF-7800W now has a dual-band capability that operates on a 5.8 gigahertz range with a data throughput of at least 400 megabits per second.
More than 20 countries, including the U.S., use that radio.
Army and Marine Corps soldiers use it and the Army has featured it during the branch’s network integration evaluation exercises.
