
Six Fairfax County, Va.-headquartered contractors were named to Fortune magazine’s list of the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the U.S., the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce announced Wednesday.
Based on 2011 revenue, the magazine’s rankings include:
- 92. General Dynamics
- 104. Northrop Grumman
- 162. Computer Sciences Corp.
- 245. SAIC Inc.
- 422. ITT Exelis,
- 439. Booz Allen Holding, parent of Booz Allen Hamilton
Exelis established a new headquarters in Tysons Corner upon its spinoff from ITT.
Northern Virginia has become a hotbed for contracting firms in the past 20 years and is home to intelligence agencies such as the CIA, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, National Reconnaissance Office, National Counterterrorism Center and Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
In total, two percent of Fortune 500 companies are headquartered in Fairfax County, compared to none 30 years ago, said Gerald Gordon, president and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.
In addition, CNBC named Virginia the number one state to do business with in 2011.
