North Korea has reportedly been jamming GPS systems over the Korean Peninsula since last Saturday, Nextgov reports.
Signal disruptions had affected over 252 flights to and from South Korean airports as of Monday, according to multiple news sources.
Lee Kyung-Woo, deputy director of South Korea’s communications commission, told Australian website News.com.au the GPS signals were indeed coming from North Korea.
Disruptions were noticeable around South Korea’s main international airport Incheon, according to Kim Choon-Oh of the South Korean transportation ministry.
North Korea’s motives are not clear but the News.com.au report suggests their actions were as a result of South Korea’s perceived disrespect for the 100th anniversary of North Korea’s founding by its first leader Kim Il-Sung.
