In-Q-Tel, the intelligence community’s investment arm, has partnered with OpGen Inc. to develop a genome mapping pipeline for the Department of Homeland Security.

In a Monday joint statement, the companies said they will work to develop a high-throughput sequence and pipeline for microbial genome analysis.

Microbial data analysis looks at samples from different sources to help detect bio-threat organisms, said Simon Davidson, a partner on In-Q-Tel’s investments team.

The companies’ joint goal is to push for adoption of whole genome mapping in the biodefense, public health and clinical markets, said OpGen CEO Douglas White.

DHS’ science and technology directorate and the National Bioforensic Analysis Center will use the technology.

In-Q-Tel also recently formed a partnership with software developer Oculis Labs.
