General Dynamics revealed its next-generation lightweight medium machine gun at the joint armaments conference in Seattle on May 15.
The Falls Church,-based firm said its armament and technical products unit executed the project through an independent research and development program to assemble the gun over one year.
Specification include:
- firing rate of 500 rounds per minute
- maximum range of 5,642 meters
- weight of 24 pounds
- equipped with quick-range barrel technology
- a .338 Norma Magnum cartridge
Ground vehicles and armament systems for helicopters and littoral aircraft can have the system.
In mid-November of last year, the unit received a $6.9 million Army contract to produce approximately 600 M2 heavy-barrel machine guns.
