ITT Exelis“™ information systems division was recognized by the Small Business Administration for its use of small businesses as subcontractors, the company announced Wednesday.

Mike Wilson, president for information systems, accepted the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for Excellence in the research and development category on behalf of the company in Washington on Tuesday.

During remarks at the National Small Business Week ceremony, Wilson expressed the company’s commitment to using small business partnerships, adding that small business contribute to economic growth.

SBA Region VIII Administrator Dan Hannaher added that Wilson’s division has demonstrated a commitment to support small business subcontracting and mentoring over the last 10 years.

The company said it has received “Outstanding” ratings from the SBA and the Defense Contract Management Agency for its small business subcontracting program since 2009.

Exelis recently won a Air Force Cryptologic Systems Division contract to produce prototype self-encrypting devices for protecting data stored in mobile applications, including laptops and unmanned aerial vehicles.
