A Lockheed Martin team conducted power-on testing of a GeoEye Earth imaging satellite, the company announced Tuesday.
Lockheed’s space systems company is helping to develop GeoEye-2 under a firm fixed-price contract with a GeoEye government customer.
Carl Alleyne, GeoEye’s vice president of engineering, said the GeoEye-2 satellite will be operational by 2013.
The team installed power subsystem components, harnesses and tracking, telemetry and control hardware on the satellite.
The team will now start the payload integration, functional testing and environmental testing phases of the GeoEye-2 program, Lockheed said in a release.
ITT Exelis provides the imaging system for the satellite, which will collect imagery for intelligence analysts, warfighters and commercial customers.
Exelis delivered the imaging system last week to Lockheed’s facility in Sunnyville, Calif.
