Raytheon Launches Smithsonian STEM Exhibit - top government contractors - best government contracting eventRaytheon launched an interactive science, technology, engineering and mathematics exhibit at the the Smithsonian International Gallery in Washington on Saturday.

The Cambridge, Mass.-based contractor said in a Friday release it aims to increase interest in STEM-related careers with the MathAlive! exhibit by offering museum visitors hands-on, subject-related activities.

The company said exhibit visitors will be able to design video games, engineer cities and ride snowboards.

Raytheon Chairman and CEO William Swanson said the exhibit is designed to excite students about connections between math and other activities students do.

Swanson said the company also wants to encourage students to become future engineering and technology leaders.

Last month, the company sent volunteers to events nationwide in celebration of National Engineers Week.

The exhibit will stay in Washington for three months then will go on a multiyear tour to science centers and museums in 15 additional U.S. and international cities.

NASA, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, National Society of Professional Engineers, National Engineers Week Foundation, the Society of Women Engineers, and Mathcounts collaborated with Raytheon to develop MathAlive!

Among the tour stops is the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala., an area wrought with contracting activity of recent including Intelligent Decisions’ new business headquarters in the area.
