Boeing’s commercial satellite services unit and Artel are partnering to distribute Inmarsat satellite bandwidth to potential federal customers, Boeing announced Tuesday.
The companies will offer Inmarsat-3, -4 and -5 bandwidth and end-to-end commercial satellite services to federal and commercial customers under a cooperative agreement.
Craig Cooning, CEO of Boeing’s international satellite systems business, said the partnership is in response to the demand for satellite communications.
Cooning said the demand is greater than the supply.
Inmarsat-5 global satellite communications will be available starting in late 2013.
Users will be able to conduct compatibility testing on their Inmarsat-5 terminals starting in the middle of 2013.
In September, Inmarsat signed a three-year agreement designating Northrop Grumman as a leased service provider and network series distribution provider of Inmarsat’s satellite communications offerings.
