Telcordia Technologies Inc. has reorganized its advanced technology solutions business unit into a wholly owned subsidiary, Telcordia announced Thursday.
Telcordia said it separated the unit, now known as Applied Communication Sciences, to alleviate U.S. government concerns about the affects of Telcordia’s recent $1.5 billion takeover by Swedish telecommunications firm Ericsson.
Telcordia said the subsidiary will continue to provide research and network solutions to defense and intelligence community customers, including the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Defense Information Systems Agency and the U.S. Army Research Laboratory.
Applied Communication Sciences focuses on cybersecurity, critical infrastructure protection and emergency preparedness.
Telcordia also announced John Hillen, president and CEO of Sotera Defense Solutions Inc., has joined the subsidiary’s proxy board of directors, which was approved by the U.S. government.
Brent Greene will run the subsidiary’s day-to-day operations as CEO and report to the board.
“We will continue to bring together applied research, and consulting and engineering capabilities to help commercial enterprises and government agencies across the globe fully exploit the future of communications,” said Greene.
Telcordia said Alan Wade, a former chief information officer of the CIA, also joined the board.
