The U.S. Air Force has awarded Lockheed Martin‘s space systems company a $21.5 million contract to provide a launch checkout and capabilities system for the GPS III program, the Pentagon announced Friday.
GPS III will replace older satellites, and is scheduled for deployment in 2014.
Lockheed's LCC system is scheduled to be integrated with the Raytheon-developed Next Generation Operational Control System GPS OCX, which will monitor the new GPS satellite.
Work will be performed in Newton, Pa. and King of Prussia, Pa and is expected to be completed Dec. 8, 2020.
