The Food and Drug Administration is developing an app it says will allow clinicians to monitor adverse reactions patients may develop from experimental drugs during public health emergencies.

The FDA said the “Real-Time Application for Portable Interactive Devices” has a collection of photos and videos of different possible reactions such as rashes or skin lesions, along with audio recordings of previous reactions.

The FDA said the app will be tested on smartphones first before being tried on tablets such as the iPad.

The FDA is looking to work with a software developer that will be able to produce a complete and fully operational system within a year. The FDA said the developer will have a plan on how to deploy the system across the country.
