Verizon Wireless and WellPoint, Inc. are working together to create secure videoconferencing through Verizon’s 4G LTE network between healthcare members and providers. The companies indicated they aim to encourage healthier living.
As a result of the collaboration, nurse care managers will be able to use mobile devices with 4G LTE to communicate face-to-face and offer real-time healthcare guidance to WellPoint-affiliated health plan members.
“By leveraging video, we hope to enhance engagement in healthcare management, improve the quality of services provided and help consumers stay on track with their programs,” said Michael Tighe, executive director, mHealth solutions, Verizon Wireless.
The companies indicated that their goal is to make consumers play a more active role in their healthcare by being able to quickly reference experts through mobile health consultations in order to make better informed decisions.
“It is important for all of those offering healthcare-related services to adopt the latest technologies in mobile health,” said Tighe.
