The U.S. Air Force has awarded Raytheon a contract to complete the incorporation of automatic dependent surveillance and broadcast capability into the company’s APX-119 Identification Friend or Foe transponder suite.
Raytheon said the transponders support the Federal Aviation Administration‘s NextGen plan, intended to transform the National Airspace System. The company reported the process is scheduled for completion in advance of the FAA’s compliance deadline for 2020.
Raytheon says the ADS-B is a space-based navigation system for air traffic management.
