Northrop Teams with ITT Exelis to Compete for Army Radio Contract - top government contractors - best government contracting eventNorthrop Grumman Corp. and ITT Exelis have announced they will work together to compete for a U.S. Army contract for a vehicle-mounted, software-defined radio.

On Nov. 4, the Army issued a draft request for proposal for the “mid-tier networking vehicular radio.”

The new system would replace an older version of the ground mobile radio system and enable mobile internet-like voice, data and video capabilities. The unit would also be able to connect warfighters via tactical platforms.

If selected, Northrop will lead the team and manufacture its Freedom 350 multifunction radio system. In conjunction, Exelis would aid by supporting radio development and manufacturing, vehicle installation and providing logistical support service.
