Northrop Grumman has been awarded a contract by the Defense Microelectronics Activity to provide a combat electromagnetic environment simulator system.
The CEESIM is said to support maintenance of the U.S. Air Force“™s E-3 airborne warning and control system‘s computer program software.
Northrop will deliver the simulator to Tinker Air Force Base‘s avionics integration support facility in Oklahoma City. The simulator will replace an older “multiple environment simulator system“, which has been in operation at the facility for more than 14 years.
The new system is expected to provide navigation and pulse data generated from customized scenarios, in addition to improving simulation experiences dealing with true-to-war conditions.
The DMEA emerged in 1981 as an engineering division of the Sacramento Air Logistics Center at the former McClellan Air Force Base with the concept of implementing microelectronics in weapons systems.
Today, the DMEA is part of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and provides microelectronics technology to all areas of the Defense Department.
