IBM is set to further its smarter cities initiatives and presence in Ireland with the finalization of its acquisition of Cúram Software Ltd.
Cúram, the Dublin-based social services software developer, was founded in 1990. Today, its virtual software is used by governments around the world as a way to monitor and manage various components of government, natural resources, utilities and social structure by providing key indicators through recorded data figures.
Through the acquisition, IBM looks to further improve its presence in the government sector through agency related support and services, as Cúram’s research and software development directly correlates with IBM’s smarter cities initiative.
According to IBM, the smarter cities initiative was designed as a way to help cities and governments adopt procedures and improve overall efficiency.
In practice, Cúram’s software will be used to monitor data through a real-time operations center, which can be deployed through an existing data center, or IBM“™s SmartCloud service.
