Goode Intelligence "Mobile Phone Biometric Security" Report

A report by Goode Intelligence investigates the market for incorporating biometrics into mobile phones and projects that the current global user base of four million mobile biometrics users will grow to 39 million by 2015.

Although biometric technology in mobile phones has existed for over ten years, the market has struggled to establish itself. However, that is expected to change with initial growth to come from embedded mobile biometrics, including fingerprint sensors and third-factor authentication where mobile biometrics is used in combination with other solutions such as voice-based biometrics.

According to the Mobile Phone Biometric Security report, consumers in places like Japan are benefiting from finger-print based biometric security to protect payments at the physical point of sale. It’s possible that this model could be replicated elsewhere.

The report also indicates that more device manufacturers are turning to embedded mobile biometrics to enhance security and set themselves apart from competitors.

Key components driving the market growth include mobile commerce applications, device security protection, convenience as alternatives to PINs and passwords, military and law enforcement and multi-factor authentication solutions.
