Accenture is among three firms to be selected by Highmark Inc. to develop a framework to provide physicians with electronic health records functionality practice and management tools. The framework is needed to meet the federal government“™s meaningful use requirements. Others selected for the project include West Penn Allegheny Health System and Allscripts.

“We maintain a market-leading track record for successfully shaping and delivering innovative technologies,“ said John Edelblut, who lead“™s Accenture“™s health business in North America. Edelblut added nothing could be more important to Western Pennsylvania than enabling doctors and patients to use insight-driven health to make better healthcare choices.

During this collaboration, Accenture plans to assist practices in the use and adoption of electronic health record solutions to help enhance the physician experience and improve patient outcomes. West Penn Allegheny is expanding its relationship to Allscripts for its own technology platform that spans multiple hospitals, physician practices and post-acute facilities.
