IT delivery company VMware has taken control of Socialcast, a software system that allows the employees, data and applications of various companies to interact with one another in real time through the use of microblogging.
In a blog post about the acquisition, Socialcast Founder and CEO Tim Young said VMware will continue to offer its three current service delivery models in addition to delivering product enhancements.
VMware Chief Technology Officer Steve Herrod said there are new approaches to tech collaboration that make better use of the Internet, and wrote in his own blog post “there is an opportunity for improved collaboration across a company that can drive new levels of productivity and employee satisfaction.“
In addition to Socialcast, VMware purchased SlideRocket and Zimbra earlier this year. The value of the Socialcast acquisition was not disclosed.
