With an onslaught of network attacks that include more than 8 million blocked malware activities, thousands of breach notifications and more than 1,700 reported security incidents, the state of California is considering incorporating cybersecurity preparedness into its state emergency plan.
Similar to natural disasters and terrorist threats, cyber attacks are included among incidents that could endanger civilians and infrastructure. In a recently held seminar, Chief Information Security Officer for California“™s Office of Information Security Keith Parker led a discussion and presentation on the state“™s plans for cyber readiness.
“We“™ll be the first in the nation if we can mature this into fruition,“ he said of the cybersecurity plan.
Also included are plans to consolidate servers, which because of the state“™s 150 agencies, more than 1,000 ca.gov domains and more than 175,000 email boxes, will help IT leaders manage and secure data more easily.
