
General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems announced today it supplied the U.S. Army“™s Second Source Small Caliber Ammunition program with 1 billion rounds of ammunition .
The business unit of General Dynamics received in 2005 a five-year contract to supply the Army with 5.56mm, 7.62mm and .50 caliber ammunition. Maneuver Ammunition Systems, the Small Caliber Second Source program managed by the U.S. Army project manager, was established to meet the small-caliber ammunition needs of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“This is a significant milestone for General Dynamics and our U.S. Army customer,“ said Steve Torma, vice president of small-caliber ammunition. “The Small Caliber Second Source program served a vital role in meeting the urgent needs of our warfighters, and it continues to enable the combat readiness of our U.S. Armed Forces.”
