CyberCom Blocks Access to Streaming Video; YouTube No Go for DoD Workers - top government contractors - best government contracting eventThe U.S. Cyber Command has restricted Defense Department workers’ access to  streaming-video websites such as YouTube, Amazon and Googlevideo, according to The Associated Press.

Officials say the overwhelming demand to see the Japan earthquake is using up the much-needed bandwidth already weakened by Internet problems in that region of the world.

Cyber Command has directed the Defense Information Systems Agency to temporarily restrict access to the websites. Most employees see the message “Website Blocked” in bright red letters when they visit one of the sites.

The command said the websites were blocked at the request of U.S. Pacific Command to help meet the needs of the military as its networks and circuits in the area are already strained.
