Unisys Corporation began offering subscriptions to its Application Modernization Platform last week.
A recent study conducted by Unisys found federal IT executives believed lack of software modernization posed a threat to mission-critical government capabilities. Security concerns coupled with financial constraints on government spending prompted Unisys to design AMPS to be a more cost-efficient and secure method of modernizing software applications.
AMPS is a prebuilt, secure software platform that is adaptable and easy to build on to. The pay-per-use subscription makes the platform more economical for large-scale IT initiatives. Unisys says AMPS also reduces in-house systems maintenance, management and upgrade costs.
Spurred by the federal government“™s mandated move to cloud computing, Unisys designed AMPS to be cloud friendly, and also adaptable to on-site hosting. The platform offers services, IT infrastructure and applications from companies such as EMC, Red Hat, Terremark and SOA Software.
“The AMPS platform builds on Unisys“™ strength in mission-critical computing to enable federal organizations to accelerate their application modernization initiatives by sidestepping traditional constraints that can slow progress,“ said Gene Zapfel, managing partner for portfolio solutions at Unisys Federal Systems. “AMPS significantly reduces capital expenditure, and reduces total cost of ownership, which are especially important as federal IT budgets remain tight. Unisys AMPS offers agencies a path to incrementally modernize their enterprise applications and create more cost-effective shared services.“
Unisys offers AMPS support nationwide. The company recently opened its Unisys Application Modernization Center of Excellence in St. Louis, Mo. The center services federal and commercial customers with building, operating and maintaining Unisys software applications.
