As February arrives, so does Black History Month. Exhibits and events celebrating African-American roots abound.

Fairfax county and Cox cable are sponsoring a free showing of “Embracing Our Youth, Our Heritage and Celebrating All Cultures.“ The show begins 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, in the Fairfax County Government Center Auditorium with a reception open to the public beginning 6 p.m.

The “America, I am“ exhibit at the National Geographic Museum runs through May 1. Two-hundred pieces mark the African-American experience in this exhibit. The museum is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission prices are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors/students, $6 for children 12 and younger. Discount tickets are available at area Walmarts.

Barnes and Noble sponsors a Black History Month story time every Tuesday in February. Check individual stores for times.

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History“™s 2011 Family Day Celebration is Feb. 5. The free presentations begin 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The National Capitol Trolley Museum presents “Segregation Aboard Streetcars.“ The exhibit runs through February. Located in Colesville, Md., the museum is open weekends from noon to 5 p.m. Admission including unlimited trolley rides is $7 for adults, $5 for 17 and under, and $4 without rides.

The National Air & Space Museum features a special exhibit on the Tuskegee Airmen. The exhibit is open Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Dulles, and Saturday, Feb. 12 at the museum on the National Mall. Both events are free and run from 10 a.m.““3 p.m.
