A new online tool by SafetyWeb.com allows kids to easily report cyberbullying, abuse or other dangers with the click of a mouse.
The Facebook application FindHelp provides a list of phone numbers and links to report incidents to organizations such as the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s CyberTipline, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline and Facebook’s Abuse Reporting process.
“It is important that kids using Facebook and other social media be aware of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s CyberTipline and have access to an online safety tool that makes it easy to report incidents to us,” said Ernie Allen, president and CEO of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
A study by Care.com found that 30 percent of parents of children 12-17 years old fear bullying and cyberbullying more than kidnapping or any other danger.
“Mean kids and bullies are not new, but the access to social media networks and cellphones that can make bullying both anonymous and seemingly innocuous is the new danger. And parents are genuinely afraid,” said Wendy Sachs, editor-in-chief of Care.com. “Our study found that parents are also stepping up and want their schools and communities involved.”
