IBM has announced it has developed a cloud computing services for government agencies called Municipal Shared Services Cloud.
The aim of the platform is to integrate operations, provide more transparency, and increase productivity for government workers. Eventually, IBM hopes to add a citizen portal to the platform, a web-based way for citizens to be informed and involved in their local government.
The first pilots for the cloud platform will be the New York Conference of Mayors and the Michigan Municipal League.
“Today, municipalities need to integrate their operations to save money and improve the quality of services they provide to their constituents. IBM’s new Municipal Shared Services Cloud uses unprecedented collaboration and information sharing to accomplish this goal,” said Robert Morris, vice president of IBM Research.
