Walt Havenstein, CEO of SAIC, was honored with a “Good Scout” award last Tuesday at the McLean Hilton near Tysons Corner, Va.
Steve Gaffney, newly appointed president and CEO of DynCorp, served as master of ceremonies and event chairman. All proceeds from the event will benefit the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
“We could use more scouts and the leadership qualities they exemplify across the river,” Walt Havenstein said in his acceptance speech, and praised the Boy Scouts of America for creating new, technology-related badges in areas like robotics.
The “Good Scout“ Awards were created by the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America to recognize a leader in the Washington Metropolitan Area who exemplifies the ideals of scouting in his or her daily life. Walt Havenstein’s award recognizes not only his contributions to SAIC in the past year, but also his exemplary past leadership at BAE Systems.
Past winners of the “Good Scout” award include Dr. Bahman Atefi of Alion Science and Technology, Wood Parker of Northrop Grumman, Dr. J. P. “Jack“ London of CACI and Duane Andrews of QinetiQ North America.
