IBM scientists have patented a new natural disaster-warning system that could improve response efforts, the company has announced.
Device inventors Robert Friedlander and James Kraemer hope the system will speed up emergency response in disaster situations.
The new technology uses analytics and vibration sensors to accurately predict timing of subsequent catastrophes, such as tsunamis and earthquakes in real time. The information is sent to a database determining the exact starting time and place of the event, as well as its intensity and duration. It can also quickly send this information to disaster relief managers such as police, firefighters and FEMA.
